Hello! What books are you reading right now? Narrative, business, books you read to your kids and books your kids read.... I am looking for some inspiration... Thank you! :)

Where am I?

Oh man! Right now we are reading at mealtimes as a family. We are doing poetry at breakfast, A Children’s Garden of Verses. At lunch we are reading The Glory and the Dream, William Manchester, which is a social history of the US between 1932-1972. For dinner, we are reading Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway. It’s really keeping the conversation at the table positive and not focused on quarantine, coronavirus, politics, etc. For my own reading I am re-reading  Viktor Frankel’s book Man’s Search for Meaning, which is his account of his experience in Auschwitz and his reflection on the psychology of survival. It’s really helping me keep my head together through all this, by giving me perspective. Thank God for books!

Books are currently keeping me sane:) I try and have a few going at the same time, since I don't always know what kind of readinf I will feel like! At the moment, I am enjoying a junior mystery novel (I love reading children's lit and calling it research:)) by Alexander McCall Smith: "School Ship Tobermory". It's about twins, homeschooled on their parents' submarine, and their transition to a boarding school aboard a ship that sails the seven seas. So much fun! Also, I am re-reading (for the millionth time) Corrie ten Boom's story - "The Hiding Place" - about her experiences in the Second World War: sheltering Jews, getting caught, and surviving Ravensbruck concentration camp. Such a beautiful, hope-filled book, and it serves me so well in giving me perspective during uncertain times like this! Looking forward to reading comments from others and getting some good book recommendations:)

I've been enjoying reading Wind In The Willows to Mina each night. It's the first time I've read it, so I'm getting to enjoy a new story too!

Outside of that, I'm reading my usual mix of fiction, business and personal development books.

Current, I'm ploughing through Bernard Cornwall's Sharpe series, book by book (though it's also a little research for one of my stories!), for my night time fiction fix. I'm just about to start the 7th or 8th one tonight; Sharpe's Eagle.

On the business side; I'm reading the second edition of Oversubscribed by Daniel Priestley. I'm a huge fan of Daniel's methods and approach to business and think this book is an absolute gem of a practical blueprint for modern business. I'm looking forward to implementing more of it into our various projects.

From a personal development standpoint, I'm reading Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins. Normally, I find Ribbons' to be a bit over the top, a bit...strong in his delivery, though I think he has some great ideas. As such, I was a little reluctant to start this book, but even after 20+ years it's still got a great reputation so I thought I'd try. And I must say, I'm finding it extremely good! There isn't as much of his more recent OTT style just, in my opinion, great ideas, well put together, that I think are still practical, powerful and pertinent to today.

So, in short, I'd recommend all four books! :)
